When it Comes to Your Body, Where’s Your Head?

When it Comes to Your Body, Where’s Your Head?

This is the question I ponder as I work with my personal training clients and the young athletes that I coach in their varied sports.

I have been a trainer for 18 years. I have worked with all types of people. I have trained people just starting a fitness routine and people in tremendous shape looking to improve upon their regimen. Yet, no matter whom I train, the obstacle to attaining fitness and rehabilitation goals (if there is one) is always the same—a failure to maintain a solid and persistent mindset!

To combat this obstacle I have created my “TROYosophy” using my military and fitness background as a framework to explain and help people see how we ALL have to work hard to attain our goals.

TROYosophy

  1. Feed the Positive; Starve the Negative!
What drives you? For me it’s faith, family and fitness. Surround yourself with the right environment, including friends, music, reading and entertainment. You truly need to address where the negative is coming from and deal with those issues so you can be rid of them. Change your thoughts to change your world!
  2. Protect Your Mindset
Stop allowing the “enemies” of procrastination and complacency into your head. In the back of your mind, you may not be living the life you have been dreaming of because you have let these self-limiting ideas into your head. This also includes self-doubt, living in the past, focusing on regrets and possibly feeling unworthy. Move on to carry on!
  3. Recognize and Re-ignite
Recognize the negative mindset and re-ignite the positive one. What do I mean?

    Well, the negative mindset says:

    I’m too busy.

I’m too tired- even if you sat at a desk all day!

I need to focus on my children’s schedules.

I’m a road warrior and always traveling for business.

    While the POSITIVE mindset says:

I don’t want to but I’ll feel better after exercising.

I can make time on my schedule and keep the appointment with myself.

I can work out wherever my children’s practices are held.

I can barter with a friend or neighbor to watch my children so I can get to the gym or work out at my house without constant interruption.

I can take my fitness regimen on the road by taking workout bands and stretch straps (light enough not to tip the airline scales). If I sit in meetings all day, I can take short walks and eat my pre-packed snacks.

CREATIVITY and CONSISTENCY are the KEYS! Walking and bodyweight exercises are great tools for you to stay consistent and get results.

Make the commitment and stay persistent on your fitness goal.
