Cara is an Obstetrician/Gynecologist with Simmonds, Martin and Helmbrecht, Chartered. She grew up in Florida and moved to Atlanta to complete a BA in Psychology at Emory University in 1987.  Medical school took her back to Florida where she earned her M.D. at University of Miami in 1991. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University in 1995.

She has been in private practice since 1995 in Montgomery and Frederick County Maryland except for a 6-year sabbatical during which time she was home with her 4 children.  Since returning to practice in 2010 her focus has been on office gynecology. Her special interests are adolescent health, perimenopause and menopause. She is a North American Menopause Society certified Menopause Practitioner.

Cara resides in Washington, DC with her husband (also an OB/GYN) and their 4 children. She enjoys reading, yoga, travel and sailing.
